Fall is in the air, the warm days, cool nights, and the smell of Mom's home made Apple Sauce in the morning was the first sign of fall when I was growing up.

Mom made the best Apple Sauce in town, all my friends wanted to spend the night. They knew for breakfast we would have homemade Apple Sauce...

Recipe of the Month

Mom's Homemade Apple Sauce

I have warm memories of my mother’s applesauce.  We had an apple tree in our backyard, so this was one of our first fall treats.  The best part of her applesauce was the chunky pieces of apple…loved the texture and as a kid one of my favorite parts of breakfast was toasted homemade bread; spread with a little butter then spooning on her applesauce…it was like having apple pie for breakfast.

8 Apples of your choice

1 cup of Water or Apple Cider

1/2 Cup of Sugar

1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon

Her recipe was so simple…peel and core eight apples of your choice, cut into thick slices then cut the slices into chunks.  Place apples, 1 cup of water (or you could use apple cider), ½ cups of sugar, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon.  Bring to a boil, then cover with a lid and simmer for 15 minutes or until the apples are tender.  You can use a fork to smash the apple chunks to the consistency that you prefer.  Serve it warm.  But just as good cold.

Check back next month and see what delicious recipe Jan has from her It's All About Thyme Kitchen. Enjoy!
